Connecticut’s Only Free, Outdoor Horror Movie Series Returns in 2026 to Downtown Hartford in July and August
Hartford, CT – March 25, 2026 – Hartford.com and the Hartford Business Improvement District are once again welcoming horror movie fans to downtown Hartford this year with the return of their popular outdoor horror movie series, Spooky Popcorn presented by Fine Fettle.
Connecticut’s only free, outdoor horror movie series, which takes place in downtown Hartford on Constitution Plaza, will screen eight new and classic horror movies on Saturday nights in July and August. Spooky Popcorn will start on July 11 with a screening of 2018’s critically acclaimed, modern classic Hereditary, and will conclude on August 29 with 1973’s Academy Award-winning classic The Exorcist. This year’s series will also include the locally made Self-Help, written and directed by Connecticut filmmaker Erik Bloomquist.
The full 2026 line-up for Spooky Popcorn includes Hereditary (July 11), the original Japanese-language version of The Ring (July 18), The Mist (July 25), Self-Help (August 1), The Others (August 8), 2025 Australian film Bring Her Back (August 15), John Carpenter’s In The Mouth of Madness (August 22), and The Exorcist (August 29).
Rain dates for each film will be the corresponding Sunday nights. Thanks to the generous support of presenting sponsor, Fine Fettle Dispensary, all eight movie screenings are free and open to the general public.
This year’s screenings will once again include several special giveaways and local vendors. Prizes and vendor schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
All movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs. Outside food and beverages are also welcome. Children aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
